Therapeutic Approach
Being Community Psychology integrates a range of therapeutic techniques and approaches with the goal of not only overcoming mental health concerns, but building connection and fulfillment in our lives.
Existential-Humanistic
Existential-Humantistic is a therapeutic and philosophical approach which explores our ability to create our own sense of meaning in our lives. This approach also explores struggles and concerns considered universal to humanity, such as our desire for order and meaning within a chaotic world.
Acceptance-Commitment Therapy
Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT) integrates cognitive-behavioural and mindfulness techniques to build our capacity to accept symptoms and experiences that can be uncomfortable, while committing to act in alignment with our personal values and goals.
Eye Movment Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR)
Traumatic and other important experiences are remembered physiologically and subconsciously.
Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment recommended by the World Health Organisation for treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Integrative Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) explores the intimate connection between our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. By understanding our own patterns and automatic thoughts, we gain the power to influence and gradually change them. Our instinctual thoughts and behaviours can be understood through our evolutionary biology and adaptation to earlier experiences.

Being Community Psychology draws from traditional and modern CBT models, in particular the Changing Tracks model developed by Lidia Genovese, Principle Psychologist at CABCAA Institute of Personal & Professional Development.
Gamification
Gamification is a sub-set of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy called Behavioral Activation. Gamification extends evidence-based behavioural activation strategies in conjunction with game design techniques to build motivating, engaging, playful systems into our lives.
Evolutionary Psychology
Evolutionary psychology is the integration of research regarding our evolutionary past, neuroscience and psychology. Understanding the evolutionary advantage of some psychological mechanisms and how we can overcome maladaptive behaviours are integrated into other therapeutic techniques.
Mindfulness & Mind-Body Therapies
Mindfulness is a technique used both independently and with a wide range of other therapeutic approaches. Mindulness is a practising of non-judgemental awareness of thoughts and physiological sensations. This practise both interrupts our sympathetic nervous system and also builds our awareness of our psychological and physiological responses, reducing our stress and increasing our capacity to overcome mental challenges.
Mind-Body therapies such as mindfulness, embodied movement and guided meditation can support processing and overcoming challenging experiences.
